Sleep Number® Bed Repair: Rebuild Your Bed With New Covers, Foam and Rails
If your Sleep Number® bed has developed a dip in the middle, feels softer than it used to, or the cover is worn out, you usually don't need a new bed. The air chambers and pump are the expensive parts, and they often outlast the soft parts around them. This builder lets you replace only the worn parts (the zip-around cover, the comfort foam layer, and the foam border rails) and see your total price as you go, all on one page.
Every part is made to order in the USA by Magic Sleeper, a family-owned mattress company in Pottstown, Pennsylvania that has been in the mattress business since 1979 and has made Sleep Number® compatible replacement parts for over a decade. Shipping is free.
What you can rebuild here
Replacement cover (shell)
The quilted or knit shell that zips around the whole mattress. Choose the Euro Top Shell if your bed has one zipper, the Box Top Cover if it has two zippers, or the Smooth Top Shell for newer (about 2020 and later) models with a smooth, stretchy knit top. Covers are sewn to your size and height with YKK zippers.
Comfort foam layer
The foam that sits on top of the air chambers and gives the bed its feel. Choose medium (closest to the original), firm, soft, gel memory foam, natural latex or egg crate, in 1″ to 4″ heights. Stack up to three layers, or give each side of a Queen or King its own firmness.
Foam rails
The foam border around the air chambers that holds them in place and gives you edge support. Order a complete set (sides, head and foot) or side rails only. Our rails are 2.6 lb density, 85 ILD foam for firmer edges than the originals.
How the Sleep Number® bed builder works
- Pick your bed sizeTwin XL, Full, Queen, Expanded Queen, King, California King, RV King, or a FlexTop (split-head) Queen, King or Cal King.
- Choose a cover, or skip itMatch your zipper style and measured height. Skip any part you want to keep.
- Build your comfort foamPick a foam and height, add layers, or choose two pieces so each sleeper gets their own feel.
- Add rails and check outYour parts are added to the cart as separate items, made to order, and shipped free.
Give each side of the bed its own feel
Couples often want different firmness on each side. On a Queen, King or California King you can order a foam layer in two pieces, one for each side. For example, on a King you can choose a Medium Regular Twin XL piece for one side and a Firm Regular Twin XL piece for the other, then add a full-size King gel memory foam layer across the top to blend the two together. Both pieces are made in the same height so the bed stays level.
Which parts do I actually need?
| What you notice | What usually fixes it |
|---|---|
| A dip or body impression where you sleep | New comfort foam. If the top quilting is also flattened, a new cover too. |
| You roll toward the edge or the sides sag | New foam rails (complete set or side rails). |
| The cover is torn, stained, or the zipper is broken | A new cover in your zipper style and height. |
| The bed feels too firm or too soft overall | A different comfort foam, or an extra layer. |
| One sleeper wants it firmer than the other | A two-piece foam layer with a different foam on each side. |
Not sure what is inside your bed? Unzip the cover and look: the foam rails form a frame around the air chambers, and the comfort foam lays across the top of both. If you are still unsure, call us at 610-327-2322 and we will help you figure it out.
How to measure for a replacement cover
Unzip your cover and measure the total height of everything inside it: the foam rails plus the comfort foam on top. That number is the cover height to order. For example, 6″ rails with a 2″ foam layer means an 8″ cover. If you are changing your foam thickness, add the difference to the cover height. Our step-by-step guide has photos: How to measure and order the right size cover.
