The Box Top Shell is a complete dual-zipper replacement cover for Sleep Number® beds built with two separate zippered compartments. If your mattress cover is sagging, stained, torn, or worn out but the air chambers and foam inside are still good, this outer shell makes the whole bed feel new again — without the cost of replacing the mattress. Is this the right cover for your bed?
The defining factor is the two separate zippers, not the model number. Dual-zipper construction is common on the 5000, 6000, 7000, and 9000 models, as well as newer i8 and i10 models. Note that some 5000 and 6000 beds were built with a single zipper, so it is worth double-checking yours. If your bed has two separate zippers, this cover will fit — even if your exact model is not listed.

How the dual-zipper design works
The two compartments let you house your components in two sections and replace just the top later if you ever need to:

Top compartment (3″ or 4″): sized for your Sleep Number comfort foam layer.

Bottom compartment (6″ or 8″): holds your foam side rails and air chambers.
The shell has sewn slots for dual air hoses, so it fits dual-chamber beds cleanly with the hoses routed without stressing the zipper.
Only the top quilt is worn? Save $250+ with the top-only option
Because the top is its own zippered panel, you often do not need a whole new shell. If your bottom section, border, and zippers are still good and only the quilted top is worn or stained, our Replacement Box Top (top quilt only) reuses your existing zipper for a perfect fit and saves you $250+.
Custom-fit to your mattress height
Choose the combination that matches your bed — the bottom section (6″ or 8″) plus the top section (3″ or 4″). Building it to your exact heights gives a snug, tailored fit with no bunching or gaps at the zippers.
How to measure for a dual-zipper cover
Measure the two sections separately, then pick the matching combo:

Top section: measure your comfort foam layer — usually 3″ or 4″.

Bottom section: measure your foam side rails plus air chamber height — usually 6″ or 8″. Measure the rails at a spot with the least wear (normally the head or foot).

How do I know if I have a dual-zipper bed?
Look at your current cover: a Box Top bed has two separate zippers — one around the top comfort-foam section and a second around the bottom section. If there is only one zipper, you need a single-zipper shell instead (our Euro Top or Smooth Top).
My model is not on the list — will it still fit?
Yes. As long as your bed has two separate zippers, this cover will fit, regardless of the model number. If you are unsure, call 610-327-2322 and we will confirm.
What height combination should I order?
Measure your comfort foam for the top section (usually 3″ or 4″) and your foam rails plus air chambers for the bottom section (usually 6″ or 8″), then pick the matching combo. We are happy to help if you are not sure.
Does it come with the air chambers and foam?
No — this is the outer shell only. It reuses your existing air chambers, foam rails, and comfort layers, which is what makes it a cost-effective way to refresh the bed.
Can I replace just the top instead of the whole shell?
Yes — and on a dual-zipper bed it is easy because the top is its own panel. If only the quilted top is worn, our Replacement Box Top (top quilt only) reuses your existing zipper and saves $250+.
